01mrm,  about me

more ramblings…

Dare I say that I’m going to try and write every night for awhile??  🙂  I’ll either run out of interesting things to say and just start rambling about nonsense… or I’ll actually make some progress towards finding where I hid my blogging voice so long ago.  Time will tell I suppose.

I think tonight will be mostly rambling….  again.

We got a lot of work done around the house today.  It always makes me feel good to get things accomplished, especially visual things that affect our every day lives.  Ryan finally ran some cables that have been shoved in a shelf cubbie for about two years.  He cleaned up the yard.  I did catch up work in the kitchen and around the house.  It felt good, like maybe I will start the week a little bit ahead.  We have a few free hours tomorrow before we head out to a family BBQ, so maybe we will get even more accomplished.  I can hope, right?!

One a food note… we had buffalo for dinner.  That’s right….. Buffalo.  During my $300 sanity saving shopping spree to Whole Foods Market last week I picked up a couple pounds of ground bison.   and…… It was delicious!  I liked it so much better than our usual beef (which is off limits right now due to Lucas’ allergies).  The boys loved it too.  Ryan grilled burgers and we ate the patties bun-free, smothered with home made sauerkraut and mustard.  I totally recommend it.

In other news….  I feel like my parenting skills are slipping right now.  Like it’s time to pull out the discipline books again to remind myself of what I should and shouldn’t be doing.  Lucas bit his brother yesterday – right in the crotch, and hard too.  Nathan was lucky he had underwear on because there would have been blood in addition to the teeth marks and bruising that are still trying to heal.  I know he is just being a four year old, trying to find his place in this world, and it is my job to lead him.  But it’s just a little hard to lead him when he resists everything I say, and does the opposite of everything I ask him to do. Time to muster up some more super mom skills and brainstorm my way back to (at least a little) peace and calm in our house.

On the food allergy front… not anything new.  Yesterday’s red and worsened rash continued into today.  I’m praying tonight that some kind of miracle happens in his sleep and it drops down at least a notch or two in intensity.  That would be so very wonderful.

There must be a lot of lessons I need to learn right now, and I’m doing my best to keep listening for answers and working my way along this path.  Tonight I’m editing photos and then cracking open a few of my favorite parenting books for a little brush up on some positive skills for my boy.  Wish me luck?

Joey used to bite me, and my mom’s answer was to say “well you must have done something to make him mad” and then send me to MY room. I’d say as long as you’re not doing that, you’re on the right track. lol!

Oh! Also, I totally love buffalo! I’ve been sort of grossed out/tired of regular meat and chicken lately. I’m sick of cooking it. Luckily Brian doesn’t care. Buffalo is so good, and so is ostrich. We used to get it in Julian when we were there. I had MOOSE the other night, but apparently it is illegal to sell it, you just have to get it from someone that has it. My friend Maia is from Alaska and her dad brought it for her. It was probably the best meat I’ve ever had. (Am I grossing you out yet?) Also, if you’re interested in trying different stuff, check out localharvest.org and see what is in your area. We bought goat meat from a local farm recently, and it was really good too. Apparently, goat is one of the most commonly eaten meats in the world, but not in the US, but it should be because apparently it’s much more sustainable than other types of meat. I braised it and ate it with pasta, goat cheese, and kale.

I will totally check out that site, thanks. I really was surprised how good the buffalo was. I bet moose would be good too, and I’ve never heard of eating goat meat. We Americans just get stuck in our rut of eating the same old thing… it is really fun to explore other options. And now, of course, I’m hungry thinking about your pasta, goat cheese, and kale. 🙂

I had never heard of eating goat either, and then we went to this fancy restaurant, and the owners owned the farm where everything came from, including the goat. I was freaked out at first, but then it was way too good to not eat it.

How is it that when our kids our “acting up” that we feel soo responsible?… I hear you. Bailey is testing all sorts of limits. I do not know if I am doing anything right some days, and oh boy pregnancy puts my patience at like a “0”. If you read any good books please tell cause I am just day by day right now. Somedays feel like everything is right and she gets it, other days not soo much. Patience Cindy, Patience. <3

Hi Suzanne – Oh my goodness! I totally know what you mean about the discipline thing. We seem to go in circles here. Sometimes things are going really well and other times…UGH. I feel like I go back and forth between feeling some sense of control and flailing around like a fish out of water. Always learning. Oh and will you share your yogurt recipe? I totally want to start. I got a yogurt maker (I don’t trust myself trying out other methods). I am just trying to find the right recipe. Their are so many variations and methods.

Sorry to hear about your son. Hope you find answers soon. Hang in there!

Kristy – I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. Motherhood is a journey for sure!
I will definitely share my recipe for yogurt soon. I think I’ve finally got it just how I want it so it’s about time. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
