Half a Year’s Progress

Project Be has evolved.

And I couldn’t be happier.

(Unless of course I look at this picture)

We call it the “say cheeeeeeeeese” face. But I digress….

As it turns out, doing one thing at a time just doesn’t work for me. I’ve learned that I need to let myself bounce back and forth from one thing to another and be happy with it. The trick is not to be bouncing too many things at once. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think I’ve found a good balance.

Out of the 21 subjects I laid out back in 2010, I have made progress in 13 of them. I really feel like I’ve learned so much and changed myself in the process. I’ve made permanent changes, big and small decisions, and I have a clearer picture of who I am and where I’m going. I definitely don’t have it all figured out, and I know I’ll always be going down that road, but I feel a lot more sure footed at this point.

This is my six month check in. Here is what I’ve accomplished!

Yoga. – I practice once a week (if babysitting allows for it) in class and whenever I can at home.

The Vegan Diet – explored in detail for several months and am eating vegan more often.

A self makeover – in progress.

Gardening – in progress, will write about it soon!

Composting – also in progress!

Being a better teacher to my children – a daily challenge to myself, especially with homeschooling, no beginning or end.

Living greener – making progress every month, currently reducing plastic and paper products and purging excess “stuff” in our house

Upcycling – coming later when I have a chance to get more crafty…

Adobe Photoshop – took a one day class and also working through online courses, just need more practice time.

Photography – I feel like this is a constant focus as I look through my lens at the world, learning more every day.

Eating โ€œpackage foodโ€ free: planning a household ban on packaged food in the coming months to get us out of our food rut!

Homeopathy – lots of reading and research, and I am just plain confused. Leaving this up to the professionals.

Running – this one got nixed pretty quickly. According to my doctor, I’m not cleared for that type of exercise. Maybe in 2012?

Creativity with the kids – duh! classroom!

And the rest below….. haven’t gone there yet, but I feel them coming. ๐Ÿ™‚ I do still have six months to go!

Philanthropy. Spirituality. Frugality. Poetry. Writing. Sewing. Graphic Design

On the “living greener”-I won’t buy paper towels or napkins anymore and it drives Brian nuts, but he’s too lazy to buy them himself. lol! I just use rags to clean stuff and a squeegee to clean windows, and fabric napkins….it doesn’t bother me at all but Brian complains all the time. I stopped buying paper towels because they were disappearing within a couple days. I don’t think he realizes it’s been almost 2 years….so obviously we can survive without them. Whenever his family comes over to eat, they’re always really wigged out that we don’t have paper napkins, but they are finally starting to believe me that I don’t care if the cloth ones get stained.

That’s awesome! I’ve been trying so hard to do that too. I have a big bag of old baby washcloths in the kitchen and we use those for wiping up messes, and for napkins for the kids. Seems like I am always using the dish towels myself. But I still buy paper for the really gross messes… The one thing that I just can’t give up is my clorox wipes for the bathroom…. 3 boys…. just gross!

We did not use much paper before Bailey either! Now, I like you, reserve it for the gross messes… I can not give up my wipes in the bathroom either (I need them after spraying poopy diapers! UGH!) I try to always use towels in the kitchen, We seldom use the paper there! Good job on your list! ๐Ÿ™‚
